Hootsy Privacy Policy

Made from the ground up for children's safety.

The short version

Hootsy collects nothing. No accounts, no names, no emails, no location, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking — from anyone, of any age, ever. The app works fully offline, and everything your child does stays on your device.

Who this applies to

Hootsy! (also written “Hootsy”; “we”, “us”, “the app”) is an educational quiz app designed for children aged 4–11 and their parents. It is published on Google Play by Apex Applications. This policy explains how the app handles information. Because we do not collect any personal data, there is very little to explain — but children's privacy matters to us, so we've set it all out clearly.

About this app and its publisher

Information we collect

None. Hootsy does not collect, store, transmit, sell or share any personal information from any user, of any age. Specifically, the app does not:

Information stored on your device

To make the app work, Hootsy saves your child's progress — such as stars, badges, streaks, a chosen first name and quiz scores — locally on your device only. This information never leaves your device and is not visible to us or anyone else. If you use the optional “Back Up Progress” feature, a backup code is created that you choose where to keep (for example, saved in your own notes or messaged to yourself). We never receive it.

Children's privacy (COPPA & UK Children's Code)

Hootsy is fully compliant with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code), as well as UK/EU GDPR. Because we collect no personal data whatsoever from children (or anyone else), there is no children's data to misuse, share or expose. There is no chat, no social feature, no user-generated content and no way for children to communicate with others or the outside world through the app.

Third parties

Hootsy contains no third-party advertising, analytics or tracking software of any kind. The only external services involved are:

Your rights

Since we hold no data about you or your child, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you'd like to remove the locally-stored progress, you can do so at any time from Settings → Reset All Progress, or simply uninstall the app. If you have any questions, please contact us — we're happy to help.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app works in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and the “last updated” date below. Our commitment to collecting no data is core to Hootsy and is not expected to change.
